St. Theresa's Chaplaincy - Nkoranza

History
St Theresa Chaplaincy Nkoranza

St. Theresa’s Chaplaincy is situated at the St. Theresa’s Hospital at Nkoranza. It begun as a group of Catholic faithful who gathered to pray for themselves and the sick. One Dr. Ineke Bossman from the Netherlands, who also doubled as administrator of the hospital, used to encourage Catholic faithful who are workers, patients and their relatives to gather in a summer hut that later became a grotto. One father Peter Bossman, a retired Priest from Holland and relative of Dr. Ineke, who was then staying with Dr. Ineke, said Masses.

When Rev. Fr. George Donkor Tang was appointed chaplain in the late 1990s, he championed the worship. Eventually, resident staff and relatives of patients who have been admitted began Sunday and Weekday Masses at the old structure. As the membership grew, and some Catholics living closer to the Hospital joined the congregation, the need for a bigger and more permanent place arose.

Rev. Fr. Tang, with the help of some development and the manual labor of the congregation the new chapel was completed in 2007. It was blessed and dedicated by Most Rev. Matthew K. Gyamfi on 13th May, 2007.

When Techiman Diocese was created, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Benneh was appointed as the chaplain to the hospital until he was succeeded by Rev. Fr. Enoch Duah in 2018. the St. Theresa’s chaplaincy now has about four hundred Catholics. The chaplaincy now has two Masses every Sunday in English and Twi respectively. It is the desire of current leadership to consolidate the gains made and achieve more in the vineyard of the Lord.
